Transforming farming and food systems
Description
From 'sustainability versus food and farming' to 'sustainable food and farming': Exploring practical approaches to change on farms and in the supply chain.
The session will explore how we can bring net zero, nature friendly farming, and access to high quality food for everyone together in resilient, regenerative, regional food systems.
The session will include:
• A farming viewpoint from a farmers' representative highlighting challenges to embracing more regenerative approaches and supplying more regional markets
• An introduction to the use of the global farm metric framework to bring the voice and perspective of farmers to the heart of processes of change, based on common interests and needs.
• Presentation of work on an action plan for local food, bringing together findings from the Local Food Partnership project, currently underway and involving Land Workers' Alliance, Sustain, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, and the Sustainable Food Trust
• A discussion around the topics raised, the solutions put forward, and how we might bridge the divides and overcome the issues in achieving the integrated goals of transforming farming and transforming food systems.
